YRD Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Yarra River Dragons (YRD) Dragon Boat Club celebrated its 10th anniversary in style with a night of reconnection, nostalgia, and celebration on November 11th, 2022. The celebration, which was delayed due to COVID-19 and lockdowns, brought together friends, family, and current and past members of the club to recognise the achievements and success of the Yarra River Dragons Dragon Boating club over the past decade.

Founded in 2011, YRD has grown from a small group of six members to a thriving dragon boat club with 80 strong members and a peak of 140 in 2019. The competitive dragon boat club continues to develop its members and excel in the sport of dragon boat racing, competing at the highest level across Australia and international campaigns.

The celebration also recognized the contributions of individual members with awards such as the President’s Award (awarded to Emily Z), Paddler’s Award (awarded to James and John), Rockie of the Year (awarded to Matt) and Most Improved Paddler award (awarded to Emily C and James).

The dragon boat community, as well as all members, committees, and coaches who have made YRD possible, were also recognized for their contributions. As YRD looks to the future, the dragon boat club is excited for what lies ahead in the #journeywithYRD.
